Castles of Munster: Newcastle Clanwilliam, Limerick
Castles of Munster: Newcastle Clanwilliam, Limerick
This 50 foot high tower has large upper windows and gables surmounted by chimney stacks. In c.1800 the west wall and a projecting turret collapsed, probably undermined by quarrying of the rock on which it was built. It is evident just where the quarrying took place in this photo. William Bourke held Newcastle in 1583, and Jordan Roche from 1623-55.
