Wade's Bridge
Wade's Bridge
One of the best examples of a hump-backed single span Wade bridge. Crossing the river Fechlin and carrying the military road engineered in 1732 by Major William Caufeild, roads inspector under General Wade. This famous route linked the Hanoverian Barrack-Forts of Inverness and Kilchumein, now Fort Augustus. The nearby Hotel Whitebridge is believed to be on the site of a King's House.
