The Went Valley at Ackworth, December 2006
The River Went, little more than a stream at this point, begins just to the left of this shot with the confluence of Went Beck and Hessle Beck. It runs along the northern edge of the flat valley bottom, a flood plain which it is thought once, in geological time, probably served a much larger river. This view is from Flounders Hill down the slope known as Laurel Bank, although the field in the foreground, which was pasture up until the early 1970s, has long been in arable use.
