Buchanan burial ground, Callander
Buchanan burial ground, Callander
Having been given a lift, at short notice, to Callander, and with only a short time to explore on this very wet day, I picked out just two nearby features from the map to investigate, places which would probably have been overlooked.

One of them was the Roman fort at Bochastle (NN6107 : Remains of Bochastle Roman Fort), and the other was the Buchanan burial ground, which is located on a wooded knoll. In this picture, the knoll is viewed from the footpath and cycle route. The stone structure on the right (directly in front of a more distant house) was originally a chapel, but is now a roofless enclosure containing Buchanan memorials. See NN6207 : Buchanan burial ground, Callander for a closer look.
The Buchanan burial ground
This burial ground near Callander was for the Buchanans of Leny and their descendants. It occupies a knoll, on which stand the roofless remnants of a chapel: "there is another hill, larger than Tom-ma-Chessaig (NN6207), at Little Leny, where Norie's Chapel stood, and which is still used as a cemetery by those of the name of Buchanan" ["Old Statistical Account" (1794)].
