Buchanan burial ground, Callander
Buchanan burial ground, Callander
This former chapel is shown from outside in NN6207 : Buchanan burial ground, Callander; the view direction is almost the same, and the same entrance is visible in both photographs, with a pale finial above it.

This is a view from the western to the eastern end of the enclosure. The large tablet on the northern wall (i.e., on the left), directly opposite the entrance, is for the Gaelic writer and evangelist Dugald Buchanan: NN6207 : Memorial to Dugald Buchanan. He is also commemorated by a monument in Kinloch Rannoch: NN6658 : Kinloch Rannoch.

There are also a number of mural tablets set high in the walls; for example, see NN6207 : Mural tablet in ruined chapel.

Although I photographed many more of the memorials, it would not be very useful to show them all on Geograph. In any case, details of the other memorials in the Buchanan burial ground (inside and outside this ruined chapel) can be found in "Monumental Inscriptions (Pre-1855) in South Perthshire" (John Fowler Mitchell & Sheila Mitchell; 1974; Scottish Genealogy Society).
The Buchanan burial ground
This burial ground near Callander was for the Buchanans of Leny and their descendants. It occupies a knoll, on which stand the roofless remnants of a chapel: "there is another hill, larger than Tom-ma-Chessaig (NN6207), at Little Leny, where Norie's Chapel stood, and which is still used as a cemetery by those of the name of Buchanan" ["Old Statistical Account" (1794)].
