A reminder of the past, Taff Bargoed Park

The park has been created on the site of three former coal mines:
Deep Navigation 1879 – 1991
Taff Merthyr 1926 – 1993
Trelewis 1954 – 1993
Once surrounded with coal tips and mine waste, the Taff Bargoed river has been dammed and lakes for wildlife and recreation have been created.
The initial reclamation of this site took over ten years to complete and improvements continue to be made.
In 2011 the park was awarded Green Flag status as one of the best green spaces in the UK.
