The line nearer the camera is the 'down' line i.e. the direction of travel on it is away from London. The other line is the 'up' equivalent. The direction of travel bears no obvious relationship to compass bearings. Lines to London from whatever direction are 'up'. There may be exceptions but if there are I stand to be corrected.
