Big Bertha and a Portable Engine
Big Bertha and a Portable Engine
Portable engines were used to provide power to farms before traction engines could move about themselves. They were often horse drawn to various places. Mills often used them as well for auxiliary power.

Strumpshaw Steam Collection

The strumpshaw collection is an undercover array or portable, stationary traction steam engines. Through years of collecting the strumpshaw, like the Thursford collection has grown into a museum. Every year a steam fair is run.
Inside the museum are many traction engines, a large beam engine, diesel pumps and even a railway locomotive.
