Oak Doors (Floodgate)
Oak Doors (Floodgate)
This is how the location is named on the current OS 1:25000 map. There clearly has not been a floodgate at this location for quite some years, as the concrete part of the culvert is clearly not new. Originally there would have been a wooden flap sluice covering the brick culvert to the left, which would have been held closed in the event of high water in the river Trent. A more modern sluice has been built closer to the river itself, allowing a much larger area of the riverside land to remain less liable to flooding. Compare the water level with LinkExternal link
