NN7754 : Tomphubil Lime Kiln

4 km from Foss, Perth And Kinross, Great Britain

Tomphubil Lime Kiln
Tomphubil Lime Kiln
From the plaque - Tomphubil (Gaelic translation, the mound of the booth) built circa 1865 to meet the growing demands for lime to both improve land for pasture and crops. Previously the lime quarried here had been taken to Strathtay to be rendered in small open kilns. This kiln went out of use in the early 1900s. However the lime produced was used in the improvement and reclamation of much local land.
