Literary Institute
Literary Institute
Cheadle Literary Institute is a distinctive building on Cheadle Green. The institute has its roots in an 1850s project to provide Cheadle Village with a reading room and library. The present building was constructed in 1876. It was used as a library until 1966 after which it housed the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Stockport Council Information and Advice office. The upper floors and basement rooms were available for rent/lease and for 50 years were home to the Cheadle Modern Gym. The building closed in October 2001 and remained empty until recently when it was extensively refurbished to provide self contained office units across 4 floors totalling 7,026 sq ft.
