Triumphal arch for Mereworth House
Triumphal arch for Mereworth House
When travelling along the very quiet Park Road from the old East Peckham Church to Nettlestead or Wateringbury, it is a tremendous surprise to reach a sharp bend and see this arch standing amidst the undergrowth like a reminder of a former civilisation. A check of the map shows that it was connected to Mereworth House, half a mile to the north. At the head of a valley, it was built to be seen from the house but is no longer visible from it.
