Bought in 1776 by the local magistrates, the 62 acre farm was to become part of the Workhouse system, later the union house system. The chapel part of the name comes from the 13th C chapel sited here, some masonry survives built into the barn.

Gressenhall Workhouse :: TF9717
Gressenhall workhouse is a 1777 'industrial facility' built to employ the local poor. It became union system with strict rules and laws with the introduction of thee poor law.
Today it is a working museum and office suite for Norfolk Museum services. The nearby Chapel (or union) farm is a 1920s style working farm and museum. Link
