Denbigh Castle from Galch Hill
Among the biggest and most spectacular of all castles in Wales, yet one of the least well known, Denbigh was built for Henry de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln, who was granted the site by Edward I. Begun in 1282, it was intended like Ruthin and Rhuddlan to be part of Edward's ring of fortresses around North Wales.
