St Andrew's church, Wroxeter
Wroxeter was one of the largest Roman towns in Britain, and after their departure, the town's ruined buildings were plundered for their stone. Much Roman masonry found its way into the building of St Andrew's church, which was probably in existence well before the Norman Conquest. It was considerably extended in the C12 when a chantry chapel was added to the original south aisle. The tower was built in stages from the C15 onwards, and further additions were made to the main building between the C16 and early C18. In 1763 the original south aisle and porch were demolished, and a new south wall and vestry built. The present porch was built in 1870. The church is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust.
