Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
The rather missnamed Battle of Britain Memorial Flight depart
TQ5583 : Damyns Hall Aerodrome after a stunning display. Sorry for the pedantry but the first Lancaster didn't fly until three months after the battle ended in October 1940, service deliveries started nine months after that
TQ5583 : PA474 City of Lincoln / Phantom of the Ruhr is even younger.
The MK IX Spitfire
TQ5583 : Spitfire MK356 is 1944 vintage as is
TQ5583 : Hurricane LF363 which is thought to be the last Hurricane to enter RAF service, it is a IIc which to be fair is, to a casual observer very difficult to tell from a Battle of Britain model. However in the end who cares? what is a few months seventy plus years on? The men who flew aircraft like these helped save us from fascist dictatorship. Arthurian legend said he would return to protect this country in its hour of need, maybe Arthur slept on but Merlin surely played his part in saving us all from tyranny.
