BMP1 (PT90) Armoured Fighting Vehicle
The design of this Soviet era troop carrier dates from the 1960ís. It was the first vehicle to not only carry soldiers into battle but to give them anti-tank cover too. This Czechoslovakian version from the 1980ís has a smaller gun than earlier designs due to the SALT treaties limiting anti-tank capabilities. The first appearance of this type of vehicle shocked western military planners. The result was the construction of the Warrior in the UK LinkExternal link and the Bradley LinkExternal link in the U.S.
At TQ5583 : Damyns Hall Aerodrome today this vehicle was taking part in a Vietnam era reconstruction it was playing the part of a North Vietnamese asset.
