Fanum House, Belfast
Fanum House, Gt Victoria Street, Belfast was completed in the mid-60’s and, at the time, was, at eleven storeys, the second tallest building in Belfast. I remember reading that the architect had designed it in this colour because it would not show the, inevitable, marks of pollution caused by burning coal in most industrial, commercial and domestic premises. There have been several proposals for the redevelopment of the site. The latest (June 2012) was an application for planning permission as follows “1178/F 110 Great Victoria Street Belfast Erection of 15 storey, 173 bedroom hotel with basement, including car parking. (Amended Plans)”.
