Bathing Pond (Disused)
Bathing Pond (Disused)
The 74 northing grid line passes through the centre of this pond, which is a few metres off the public footpath. Some information from Wikipedia states "A natural spring has been captured to create a cold bathing pond which was built around 1890. The construction comprises two pools of concrete, undressed and dressed natural stone. The small north pool is about two feet deep and feeds the southern pool which is about five feet deep. The southern pool has an iron handrail. The pool has not been used for decades and has been allowed to fall into disrepair." LinkExternal link.
The information is slightly in error in that the small pool is to the west, and the larger pool to the east, rather than north and south.
