National Waterways Museum - hydraulic jigger
National Waterways Museum - hydraulic jigger
This pile of machinery appears to be a dismantled hydraulic jigger crane. This is effectively a block and tackle in reverse where a hydraulic cylinder applies a large force over a short distance that is multiplied to become a lesser force (still several tons of lift) over a longer distance. The multiplying sheaves are seen at each end of the cylinder - one fixed and one moving. There is a smaller jigger bottom left that might have been used for slewing (a guess).
