Fire Beater on Gargrie Moor
My walking partner Russell becomes an honorary fireman as we find this fire beater in the middle of Gargrie Moor. I've no idea how it got there, the nearest woodland in any direction is at least 1km away. The background is the southern end of Mochrum Loch and the Doon of May forest to the right of picture. We left it there planted in the boggy waterlogged moor in case it catches fire. Edit - My fellow and local Geographer David Baird tells me that this area of moorland is deliberately burnt more or less every year or two, and he's sure the fire beater will have been used to keep the moorburn under control. Thanks for that David, every small piece of information adds to the big picture of Geograph!
