Church on the corner
Situated on Southgate Street and on the junction of the road that leads to the former Greyfriars site, St Mary de Crypt gets its name from the crypt that was built under the west end of the nave. In 1539 a Crypt School was founded by Joan Cooke (widow of local brewer and mercer John) who used the inheritance funds to further the many improvements that the family gave to Gloucester.
