View from Thurnham Castle
High up on the North Downs with superb views to the south as can be seen here, Thurnham Castle consists now of just a few walls up to ten feet high. It was built in the 12th century by Robert de Thurnham during the reign of Henry II but was ruinous by the 14th century. It was bought by Kent County Council and is now part of the White Horse Wood Country Park.
