Herring Gull Chick
This chick was not best pleased to see me, and neither was its parent, which wheeled around squawking while I was taking this shot. The chick had been half hidden in the long grass, but tried to run away when I came across it. It couldn't make any headway through the undergrowth, however. It has begun to grow proper feathers on its back, but it will be a little while yet until it is ready to fly. Assuming it survives that long, of course; it is vulnerable to cats, foxes and humans.
