Lauderdale House
Lauderdale House
This impressive façade closes the view of the High Street, looking north. It is named after the eighth Earl of Lauderdale, who bought the central part from the son of its original owner, Captain James Fell. Lauderdale commissioned Robert Adam, and after his death his brother James Adam, to extend it by adding two wings. This is actually the rear elevation. The front has a fine portico which, unfortunately, was in deep shadow today. The building has been converted into flats.
