West Hill Lift

Opened in 1891. It was originally powered by water, then oil 1924-1971, and electricity since 1971. The track length is 152m.

The West hill lift is a Victorian funicular cliff railway, which opened in 1891. Unlike the East Hill lift, the majority of the lift goes up through a 363ft (152m) tunnel The track length is 152m at an incline of 1in3. The entrance is just off the Western end of George Street.

It was originally powered by water, then oil 1924-1971, and electricity since 1971.
