Bristol Bridge Area - BS1
A former court building at the junction of Bridge Street (seen here) and High Street. The building seems to have been boarded up for a long time. The Priory Church of St James in Whitson Street 'appears' to be behind it. Its nave was formerly used as an Anglican parish church but it fell into disuse in the 1980s. In 1996 the Little Brothers of Nazareth re-established it as a Catholic church and set up the St James Priory Project offering support to people with a history of homelessness and substance dependence. It was finally fully re-opened in July 2011 after considerable input by the Project charity and the Lottery Heritage Fund.
