Shingle Storm Beach
Shingle Storm Beach
The area behind this storm beach, parallel to the main street, marks the former mouth of the Skibble Burn - now shown as the Skipness Burn on OS Maps. This was the site of the 'Sea-Pool' which was a tidal area of water used by fishermen in the 19th century. There was also a wooden boat building industry here in the early part of the 19th century. See 'Skipness The Wider View' by Joanna Gordon ISBN 1 84158 420 7. Printed 2006; Publishers: Birlinn Ltd. The 'Sea-Pool was filled in in recent times, but erosion at the neck of the manmade mouth of the Skipness Burn shows that it would like to return to its former course.
