Front entrance to The Goodwood Hotel in 1933
Seen across New Barn Hill and photographed by my father George Baker during a tour by Berkhamsted Cricket Club. As well as staying at the hotel, there are photographs showing members of the team bathing at Pagham Bay and as a group afterwards, fully dressed. The team also played matches at Littlehampton TQ0302 : Cricket match in progress in 1933 and Basingstoke SU6351 : Cricket match in progress at May's Bounty in 1933. A later photograph shows the team’s home-ground SP9908 : Berkhamsted cricket club ground in 1938. The hotel’s website Link
refers to the facts that the restaurant is known as The Richmond Arms while the building as a whole is known as The Goodwood Hotel, that it was a former coaching inn and that there are two golf courses nearby.
