The Bridgewater Monument
The Bridgewater Monument
The monument was constructed in 1832 in memory of Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, 1736-1803. The inscription on the base refers to him as “the father of inland navigation”. He was instrumental in the building of the Worsley - Manchester and the Liverpool - Manchester canals.
