Kilmakee level crossing near Templepatrick

The road here was rebuilt in the late 1970’s as the main road from Belfast to the International Airport. There was already a level crossing called “Kilmakee” a short distance away. It was renamed “Kilmakee no. 1 and this one called “Kilmakee no. 2. When the road over no. 1 was abandoned no. 2 became simply “Kilmakee”. It is an automatic half-barrier crossing remotely monitored. There is a central reservation to prevent overtaking on the approaches. It carries the road across the Belfast-Londonderry railway. The view is towards Templepatrick.
