Sherborne Steam and Waterwheel Centre
Sherborne Steam and Waterwheel Centre, taken 5 years ago
This building is the original Sherborne water works of 1869 with its large breast shot water wheel that drove reciprocating pumps. The wheel is 26' diameter and had to be totally rebuilt in 2007/8. The original axle, bearings and ring gear were reused.
Here is an earlier picture from before the wheel's rebuild - ST6416 : Castleton Waterwheel Museum.
The site has only gained the steam part of its name in 2012 with the re-erection of a steam engine in the building seen on the right behind the old pumphouse.
