Edinís Hall Broch
A prehistoric hillfort in the valley of the Whiteadder Water, with one of the few Iron Age brochs in Lowland Scotland. The site may have been occupied between 2500 and 1500 years ago. A double line of ramparts and ditches defended the enclosure, inside which were houses and walls. Subsequently, when the defences became obsolete, Romano-British buildings were constructed on the ramparts. The main feature is the broch, a large circular stone structure, with and entrance and four pairs of chambers off, one of which has steps which would have led to other chambers higher up. The best one in Britain is that at Mousa in Shetland LinkExternal link. As well as the broch, the base of which can be seen on the skyline as one approaches from Toot corner near Abbey St Bathans, there are the remains of other huts and walls. Now in the care of Historic Scotland.
