The Aiken Mausoleum (detail)
The Aiken Mausoleum (detail)
The photograph shows part of the front (the west) of the largest mausoleum in the Necropolis; see NS6065 : The Aiken Mausoleum for a view of the building as a whole, and for further details.

When there in person, the mural tablets mentioned in that item can be seen through the bars of these gates (I took photographs of the tablets, but for my personal reference, rather than for this site).
Glasgow Necropolis

The Necropolis is 37 acres in extent, and was formally opened in 1833. Like the Père Lachaise in Paris, it was laid out as a garden cemetery. In 1966, its ownership was transferred from the Merchants House of Glasgow to what is now Glasgow City Council. See LinkExternal link for further information.
