Stepping stones through the weeds by Beeston Tor Farm
I was intrigued to see
SK1053 : River crossing below Beeston Tor, which shows the same crossing but with the river flowing. January is obviously a good time to see that, because the river only runs when levels are very high, otherwise the water disappears into the underground limestone caverns through a hole further upstream.
I spent many happy holidays there in a caravan on the bank with my parents in the 1960's. One day I was at peeling potatoes with my mum on the dry riverbed when there was a sudden shout: "The water's coming!" It bore down on us without warning, swirling and seething in a wave.
Behind is the crag which is Beeston Tor.
