The Great Opencast, Parys Mountain
The Great Opencast, Parys Mountain
This immense opencast together with miles of underground workings was, in the early 19th century, the worlds largest source of copper. The windmill, whose remains are in the centre background, was once used to pump water from the underground workings. Close by there is a modern mineshaft, although its exact status at present is uncertain.
