Eilean Traigh at low spring tide
As its name implies, the "shore island" is linked to the mainland of Skye at low water - compare John Allan's photo taken at high tide NG2149 : Eilean Traigh. This view is taken from just above Colbost Jetty in the foreground. To the right lies the permanent island, Eilean Glas and in front is the Carraig Shleamhainn ("Slippery Rock"). Behind the right are the coral beaches on the far side of Loch Dunvegan and on the horizon the hills of North Harris, rather more than 20 miles away across the Minch.
