near to Outwoods, Staffordshire, Great Britain

Railway bridge over a country lane
The bridge carried the former Stafford to Newport branch of the London & North Western Railway, which opened in 1849, and closed (like so many others) in the mid 1960s. The line was planned by the Shrewsbury & Stafford Railway, built in 1849 by the Shropshire Union Railways & Canal Company, but was leased prior to that to the LNWR Society. As a result, upon the unification of the railways, it fell under the management of the London, Midland and Scottish, who operated it until the Beeching cuts in 1964.
