Footbridge over City Mills River by Olympic Stadium
The area of the Olympic Park is in a complex web of waterways, Bow Back Rivers. These have been canalised and used for mills, fresh water and chemical works starting in Saxon times. In the photo City Mills River goes off to the left under the footbridge, not open to the public during the Olympics. The River Lee goes off to the right. Spectators enter the stadium across five wide bridges - one across City Mills River is on the far left of the photo, one across the Lee is on the far right. Between the footbridge and the stadium there is a concourse with food and drink stalls, also toilets and drinking water taps - spectators can take in empty bottles and fill them at the drinking fountains.
