A view looking north along the West Coast Main Line, at Hest Bank.

The West Coast Main Line is a 400-mile railway line linking London with Glasgow. Despite its name, it is only here at Hest Bank that the railway reaches the coast. Passengers will be treated to a brief glimpse of Morecambe Bay before the railway heads back inland.

The railway is electrified using overhead cables.

The tracks on the right and in the middle are the main line; the track to the left is a branch line from Morecambe. This track has a very infrequent service, evidenced by the rust on the rails.
