The pick-up goods train was a standard part of the railway scene until the late 1960’s. It stopped, as required, at intermediate stations, often to collect or leave just a single wagon. This was a survivor, running from Appleby to Carlisle, seen here crossing the A66 Appleby bypass NY6721 : The Settle to Carlisle railway crosses the A66, with just two ballast hoppers and a brake van, hauled by 37.200.
