Conifers and heather in Slaley Forest
Conifers and heather in Slaley Forest
The land on which Slaley Forest was planted would presumably have been largely heather moorland and much ling - common heather, Calluna vulgaris - grows in open spaces within the forest. Despite the lateness of the season - mid-September - many plants are still in full flower.
