Camp Hill Locks No 56 near Bordesley, Birmingham
Travelling south from Bordesley Junction towards Sparkbrook, the Camp Hill flight of six locks allows a rise of 41ft 8in (127 metres) in about 760 metres. Lock No 56 is the second one up of the flight. Note that both ground paddles have been raised to fill the lock. A narrowboat is in it, out of sight to the left. Pipe bridges of varying size are a common feature of the canals, especially in areas which were densely industrialised.
