Railway Station, Crewe
Platform enders (trainspotters/train photographers, in other words) were always in abundance at Crewe and I went there as often as possible. The railway station was known as the Mecca - the best place to be for spotting. There were many trains throughout the day and always something to see out of the ordinary. As far as I'm concerned this is out of the ordinary. The train is bound for the capital and is headed by a DVT (Driving Van Trailer), which is common, as the trains out of London leave locomotive first. In the days before DVTs the train usually had one or two GUVs (General Utility Van) at the rear, however, in this case the locomotive is sandwiched between the carriages it is pushing and the GUVs it is hauling.
Of course the anorak beside me saw this all the time... yawn.
The Intercity liveried locomotive is Class 87016 'Sir Francis Drake'.
Crewe Railway Station is on the West Coast Main Line.
