Cross-Bedding - and a Puzzle
Cross-Bedding - and a Puzzle
If you saw this layer of cross-bedding without context, you would note that the lower right ends of the sloping cross-beds seem to have been sharply truncated against the horizontal bed below, and you might reasonably conclude that this outcrop has been turned upside-down by tectonic movements. The puzzle is that there have been no movements of that magnitude here since this was laid down in the Permian, and furthermore this is actually an extension of NS0136 : Cross-Bedding in Permian Sandstone. Seems you can't even rely on the rocks to tell you the truth.
