SX8383 : Wheal Exmouth, Christow

near to Coombe, Devon, Great Britain

Wheal Exmouth, Christow
Wheal Exmouth, Christow
Former Cornish beam engine house and castellated chimney base. The house is now a dwelling but still recognisably a beam engine house. The house was home to a 70" Cornish engine by J E Mare & Co from 1854-62 and the engine now survives at Prestongrange Colliery near Edinburgh. The building is decorative due to its proxmity to Lord Exmouth's house. The mine produced lead, silver and a small quantity of zinc.
