These words work their way up successive steps on the seafront at Sheerness. The wording on this step says 'Fourteen hundred tonnes of high explosive' and refers to the SS Richard Montgomery, wrecked two miles offshore here and still loaded with explosives. The top of its masts, surrounded by warning buoys, can be clearly seen from the seafront here.
