The JF Kennedy Memorial Arboretum was opened in 1968 by the President, Éamonn de Valera. The Arboretum is only 6 km from the Kennedy ancestral home in Dunganstown S6922. The site now extends to 252 hectares and includes specimens from 4500 species and varieties. The Pine collection includes more than 80 species and varieties of Pines.
