Oxford Canal: Bridge Number 24: Nettle Hill Bridge
Oxford Canal: Bridge Number 24: Nettle Hill Bridge
The straightened out canal runs through a cutting though Nettle Hill here having passed the former contour hugging route virtually at right angles about 200 metres north of the bridge. The old route can still be seen on satellite imagery, usually as a thick meandering line of trees, and only in a few places has it been filled in and ploughed over. The depth of the cutting can be judged by how far the bridge deck level is above the canal. The railway, out of sight to the right, is also in a cutting here.
