Wrapped up against cold winds
Wrapped up against cold winds
The palms, that is, although the people are dressed for warmth in a cool breeze. The palms along the seafront are wrapped in horticultural fleece for winter protection. The threat is as much from shredding, salt-laden easterlies as from cold, although frost is rare so close to the sea. My recollection is that inside the bundles are Cabbage Palm, (Cordyline australis) not a true palm but a member of the Lily family the Dwarf Fan Palm (Chamaerops humilis) and New Zealand Flax (Phormium tenax mainly).
